Japan's Traditional Distance Measuring Conversion

In Japan, the metric system is standard. Traditionally, "Sun" or "Shaku" are used to measure the distance. This system is called "Shakukan-hou," you may come across this system when you are going to lend a house.

  • 1Sun(寸) = 1/33m ≒ 3.03cm
  • 1Shaku(尺) = 10Sun = 10/33m ≒ 30.3cm
  • 1Ken(間) = 6Shaku = 60/33m ≒ 1.82m
